Eris, the largest dwarf planet

Palomar Quest image of 2003 UB313

The object at the center of the image is Eris (aka 2003 UB313 or Xena). It was imaged with the 161-megapixel Palomar-Quest camera on 2003 Sep 8 during the course of our ongoing survey for quasars, supernovae, and variable objects. The image is a color composite made from drift-scan images taken in the B, R, and I filters.
